Choosing between UF and RO

What's the actual difference between UF and RO?

It comes down to what each one can catch. UF filters down to 0.02 micron, which removes sediment, rust, cloudiness and bacteria. RO filters at 0.0001 micron, which additionally removes what is dissolved in the water — salts, fluoride, heavy metals and total dissolved solids. Anything dissolved passes straight through UF.

How do I know which one my water needs?

Your water test answers it. If the problems are sediment, iron staining, cloudiness or bacteria, UF handles them. If the test shows high TDS, salinity, excess fluoride or heavy metals, no amount of filtration will fix that - it needs RO. This is why we test before quoting rather than selling from a price list.

My water tastes salty or bitter. Which one?

RO. Taste of that kind comes from dissolved minerals and salts.

I have a large compound and need high flow. Does that mean UF?

Not on its own. The UF unit runs at 5,000 LPH against up to 2,000 LPH on the RO range, so it is the higher-volume option but capacity and treatment level are separate questions. If your water needs dissolved contaminants removed, high flow is not a reason to skip RO.

Does UF remove bacteria, or do I still need UV?

UF removes bacteria by size — they are physically too large to pass 0.02 micron. Viruses are smaller and can slip through, which is what the UV stage is for.

If I install RO, can I drink straight from any tap in the house?

RO produces drinking-quality water at the point of treatment, but that water still travels through your storage tank and pipework before it reaches you. For drinking and cooking we recommend pairing either system with an iClear point-of-use purifier at the kitchen tap.

Yes - we recommend one. A WaterVant system treats water at the source, but it then travels through your storage tank and pipework. A point-of-use purifier at the kitchen tap puts the final barrier where you fill the glass.

How long does installation take?

1–2 days from delivery to handover

Will it work with my pump and generator?

Yes. Systems run on mains or generator supply and restart cleanly after an outage.

What does maintenance involve?

Quarterly visits covering valve checks, media inspection, pressure testing, membrane and UV lamp checks.

How long does a system last?

Average lifespan is around 14 years before a major overhaul, assuming standard maintenance is kept up.
